Elżbieta Łazarewicz-Wyrzykowska
I’m a biblical scholar and practical theologian rooted in the Catholic tradition. My current work focuses on developing Theological Measures—research tools that are not only methodologically rigorous but also theologically fuelled, shaped by the life and language of the Church.
Academic Background
I hold an MA in Polish Philology from the University of Warsaw and a PhD in Biblical Studies from the University of Manchester (UK). Since 2018, I’ve been affiliated with the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology in Cambridge, a Catholic institute for theological education and research, where I currently serve as a visiting lecturer.
I also collaborate with the Integral Development and Solidarity Lab (IDEAS LAB) at the University of Warsaw.
From 2023 to 2025, I’m a fellow in the Psychology Cross-Training Programme for Theologians at the University of Birmingham, supported by the John Templeton Foundation.
Teaching and Professional Work
I teach communication and burnout prevention at the Medical University of Warsaw—a perfect setting to explore how theology and psychology can inform the well-being and development of professionals in high-demand environments.
My academic work is also informed by experience in coaching, mentoring, and training, including in cross-cultural and business settings.
Research and Commitments
I’m deeply committed to interdisciplinary dialogue, particularly between theology and the social sciences, and believe in the importance of science communication—and theology communication.
My research and teaching are shaped by a desire to support the healthy, sustainable growth of individuals, communities, and organisations.
Current Research Interests
- Catholics’ perceptions of God’s location
- New expressions of prayer and contemplative prayer in contemporary Christian practice
- The relationship between spiritual practices, human flourishing, and access to emotional and spiritual resources
Beyond Academia
In addition to academic publications, I’m the author of It’s Jesus!, a theologically informed picture book for children and adults alike.
I live in southern Poland with my husband—an astronomy professor—our three children, and our dog, a Welsh Springer Spaniel named Alpha.
